Degree in Pharmacy
The Department has designed the curriculum with an eye to the needs of the people of Pakistan. One of the fundamental needs of the people is the access to health facilities. Well trained and highly skilled pharmacists are needed to provide for the safe and appropriate delivery of life saving drugs to patients.
A well-trained and competent pharmacist should be educated and trained according to the knowledge and professional standards of the 21st century. He must possess well developed problem solving skills to be able to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
The program of study leading to the Pharm.D. degree brings together the necessary conceptual, analytical, and technical skills and tools necessary for the training of pharmacists who can provide an excellent standard of health care.
Objectives
The main objective of the program is to train pharmacists in the art and science of preparing and dispensing medications. The program endeavors to provide cutting edge knowledge and educational resources to students pursuing careers as professional pharmacists, researchers, managers, and academicians.
Admission
Application for admission to the Pharm.D. program in Pharmacy will be made to the Head of the Pharmacy Department at The University of Lahore. An applicant should posses an F.Sc. (Pre-medical) certificate or equivalent from any recognized college in the nation. Prospective applicants holding a B.Sc. with chemistry, botany, zoology from a recognized institute in 2nd division may also be considered for admission. There will be an entrance test for each applicant and a final decision regarding acceptance will be made after the interview. Application forms should be submitted by the applicant along with official transcripts from the institutions attended, test scores, and three letters of recommendation. Letters are sent directly to the Head of the Pharmacy Department. Examination System
Mid-Term Examination
There will be mid term examinations for each course of study in the middle of each semester. The question paper will consist of both subjective as well as objective questions and 25% of the marks of mid-term examinations will be included in the final assessment.
Final Professional Examination
There will be a final Examination at the end of each professional year for the total evaluation and 50% of the final term marks will be included in the final assessment. This Examination will include the entire course of study taught during the semester. Again, the examination will consist of both subjective as well as objective questions.
Professional Results
The Controller of Examination shall declare the result of each professional examination after two semesters. Copies of examination results will be forwarded to the addresses of students' parents.
Practical Examination
A practical examination will be held at the end of each professional examination conducted by an external examiner appointed from outside the University.
Examination Results
The University Examination Committee will examine the results to judge that examinations are neither too strict nor too lenient before forwarding results to the Controller of Examination.
